Elounda is a small town 12 km north of Agios Nikolaos. Elounda is the most tourism-developed area of Lasithi, with many great and extra luxury resorts. It is the area with most 5 stars hotels and resorts in Greece. Elounda, except from the luxurious resorts, is characterized by clean and sandy beaches, beautiful nature landscapes and sea view, calmness and quality. Although it is quiet, it is not isolated. Elounda is visited almost every summer by the royal family of Saudi Arabia and many other rich and famous people or tv stars or politicians and generally VIPs.
In a short distance you can also enjoy Plaka, a fishing picturesque village north of Elounda, Spinalonga historical fort island (tourist boats connect Plaka with Spinalonga), ruins of ancient Olous and Minoan Lato cities. In Kolokitha peninsula (in front of Elounda), you can find some isolated and unorganized beaches. You can reach Kolokitha peninsula by car.
In Elounda you can find many beautiful beaches, well organized, with recliners and umbrellas, while you can receive services in cafeterias, taverns, restaurants and hotels. Lifeguards are available. In Plaka you can find a beach with pebbles and a sandy seabed.
