Vai is a beautiful, organized beach with palm tree forest, located in Palaicastro, 23 kilometers from Sitia. Vai is renowned for its palm grove, which is the largest one in Europe.
The palm trees can be found all the way to the beach, merely 15 meters away from the sea, creating an exotic landscape. Fine sand and crystal-clear water, a cafeteria and a tavern inside the grove, a wildlife observatory, as well as sea sports facilities, are the elements which compose the scenery that impresses all visitors. There is an organised parking for cars that costs 3 euros.
Another positive aspect of the beach is that shade is abundant. By sea-bike or by walking through a trail, you can reach the adjacent beach, Psili Ammos, a quiet one with golden sand, less people and crystal-clear water. Usually, nudists come here.
