Agios Nikolaos is the capital of the prefecture of Lasithi, with a population of 10.000 people. The city’s trademark is the beautiful lake of Voulismeni! It’s located at the northern coast of the island, in the Merabello cove, and it’s reachable by ship or by airplane, from the Sitia airport (65km to the east) and the Heraklion airport(65 km to the west). Agios, as the locals call it, is an ideal place for a relaxing vacation, without that meaning that there is no remarkable night-life. A picturesque and quiet city, ideal for long walks. In the surrounding area, you can visit Kritsa (9km), Elounda (9km), Amoudara (4km) and Istros (12km). The finest beaches in the area are in Amoudara, Istros and Elounda.
